Worried about a mole or skin lesion?

Get a report within 48 hours

No need to see your GP first

Fast Mole Checks by a Consultant Dermatologist

If you're worried about a mole, you should get it checked by your GP or a dermatologist.

It can take time though to get a GP appointment and GPs will often refer to Dermatology.

An alternative is to see a private dermatologist, but they can also have waiting times for appointments and generally cost £170-250 in South Wales.

Mole Check South Wales provides a fast way for your mole to get checked by a Consultant Dermatologist using digital image capture.

"They are amazing, would definitely recommend. I had my report emailed to me within 24 hours. Thanks to them I was able to see my GP and be referred and seen through the NHS a lot quicker than it would usually take."

"Absolutely amazing service from Gwen today I can’t recommend her enough.

I had a bit of an emergency where my own doctors let me down, and I was in such a panic over my situation with nowhere to turn.

I contacted Gwen and she could sense how worried and concerned I was and managed to fit me into her schedule the same day. Within a matter of hours my mind was put at ease, and she got me the results that my GP would have taken weeks or months to get on the very same day.

Thank you once again Gwen I appreciate it and the follow up call to discuss my results, it means a lot."

What is the procedure for taking the images?

First some high quality clinical photos are taken.  Next, a small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to your mole or skin lesion; this can feel cold.  The special lens (dermatoscope) is gently held over your mole, touching the gel (the glass will feel cold).  Photos are taken through the special  microscope lens.

Do you use special equipment for the mole checks?

Yes, we use a high quality dermatoscope (skin scope) microscope. The images need to give the dermatologist sufficient detail for them to be able to produce their report. It is extremely important to us that your mole check is performed to the absolute highest standard so we invest heavily not just in our skills but also our equipment.  We use an advanced microscope with polarising and non-polarising capability and the ability to connect to our secure connection to send to the dermatologist. We also have a range of sizes of high powered lenses so we can accurately image tricky to reach moles / skin lesions.

Where are my images sent?

Your images are submitted securely via electronic transfer to Map My Mole by Community Dermatology Limited.  The Map My Mole service is aligned with the British Association of Dermatologists teledermatology guidelines.

Who are the dermatologists who will review my images and provide my report?

Your images and clinical information will be reviewed by a Consultant Dermatologist.  All consultant dermatologists are registered with the General Medical Council, included in the GMC Specialist Register for dermatology and members of the British Association of Dermatologists.

What will happen after my report comes back?

Your report will tell you what you need to do next, if anything.

The report may give reassurance that no further action is needed (just continue to monitor for change in the future) or it may advise further investigation (biopsy for more information).

Who will I see at my appointment?
